Jumu’ah Khutbah – Helping the Vulnerable by Qari Zakaullah Saleem

Allah SWT says in the Quran that:

Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad ) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in (the Meeting with) Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much. (Quran 33:21)

The Prophet is the best example and role model for every one of us, in every aspect of our lives.  The Prophet presented the best Akhlaq- he was known as a person of kind heart who was always caring and helped others. Allah ﷻ and his Messenger have highly encouraged us to help each other and look after the welfare of the people around us; regardless of their ethnicity, skin colour, background, age, or faith. As Muslims, we have the duty to look after each other and to offer our assistance and help wherever and whenever is possible.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

“A faithful believer to a faithful believer is like the bricks of a wall, enforcing each other.” (Sahih al- Bukhari 481)

He also said that The parable of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for each other is that of a body. When any limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever.” (Sahih al- Bukhari 6011)

Whoever removes only one single hardship or problem from a believer in this Dunya; Allah ﷻ will remove his hardship and difficulty on the Day of Judgement. The Prophet ﷺ also said that as long as a believer is at the service of his fellow brothers and sisters, Allah ﷻ continues to help them. As long as a Muslim is in assistance to his fellow Muslims then Allah’s ﷻ help is with them.

The Prophet ﷺ said: “The most beloved people to Allah are those who are most beneficial to people.” (Al- Mu’jam al- Aswat 6026).

Offering our assistance and help isn’t always to do with money and wealth, you can help others through your skills and time. Allah’s ﷻ help and assistance will be with you as long as you continue helping others.

When it comes to offering our help and assistance to others, we need to follow the advice of Allah and the Prophet ﷺ. When we study the book of Allah ﷻ, we come to know that those who deserve our help and assistance the most are our own parents. After our parents it is our relatives and our children. This is something that Allah ﷻ has repeatedly mentioned in the Quran. When you spend on your relatives you will potentially be rewarded twice; once for your spending, as well as strengthening your relationship with your relatives.

After your parents and relatives, orphans and the needy in our community should not be neglected. Those who are around you deserve your assistance and help more than those who are far away.

May Allah ﷻ give us the strength and ability to put into practice the knowledge that we gain.
