Re: GLMCC’s response to abhorrent anti-Islam film and Middle East rioters
Green Lane Masjid and Community Centre (GLMCC) condemns the outrageous film, mocking the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him and all the prophets of God). Muslims believe that the Prophet Muhammad is the last and final Prophet of God sent to mankind.
The killing of the US Ambassador to Libya, HE Christopher Stevens, is also a deplorable act that is contrary to the teaching of Islam and the way of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
A media spokesperson from GLMCC said, ‘the killing of the US Ambassador is against the teaching of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the perpetrators that committed such heinous crime, should be brought to justice. Not only is it against the Islamic faith to attack diplomatic missions, but it’s also against universal values for all faiths, cultures and creeds irrespective of what state they represent. This is an act of a few misguided individuals.’
He further went on to say, ‘Mocking the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him) is extremely offensive to Muslims. This is similar to denying the holocaust which is offensive to the Jewish community and in similar respect mocking the Prophet of Islam or other biblical prophets is offensive to Muslims. Freedom of expression is a right that every person should have, but not at the expense of mocking or offending others.’
We ask the community to remain calm and not to take the law in to their own hands. Harming people, damaging property or infrastructure, is against the prophetic teachings.
We hope that this does not drive a wedge between Muslims and non-Muslim communities, and we ask others to condemn this attack and the producers of this film.
